Adam Martin is Manchester based Tech & House DJ/ Producer. Adam began his DJ career in early 2009, and as he had anticipated it was not going to be easy.

Adam decided to take some pointers from Mark Bradbury aka The Dutch Rudder by attending his (www.makemeadj.com) DJ School. When asked about Adam, Mark said “Adam is a new up and coming DJ talent that i have seen improve in a matter of months. Playing an energetic house sound and with new found skills on the decks. Adam will be a DJ to watch in the future”.

During late 2009 it all started coming together as Adam landed a weekly residency at the AP CLUB LOUNGE BAR, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. This has given Adam a fast education in how to read a crowd.

Once happy with his mixing abilities and track selections Adam passed a mix-tape onto Mike McGuinness aka Lempo, who runs a club event called ‘Monkey Funk’ (www.letsgetfruity.co.uk). This led to Adam’s entry into a DJ competition, which he finished a very respectable second place. The powers that be at Monkey Funk moved fast to secure Adam would become a monthly resident for them and a regular guest with there new project ▲PPLiQUE. Mike said “Adam is a great lad full of energy and determination to get where he wants to be. This is something that along with his great technical ability, we see the potencial that will take him places. That is why we wanted to work with him”.

Adam’s confidence was raised high and ambitions moved up to a new level after playing alongside such household names as Dave Spoon and Funkagenda. He was given a set at INIGO, London where he also performed a very impressive set. These quailitys sent him too play at Pacha (london) and theyve already rebooked him a few days after his set. Adam is rapidly going strength to strength in a short amount of time and the future clearly holds great things for this budding DJ.

Hailing from Liverpool, this trio gained notoriety with their 2008 hit, Let’s Dance to Joy Division. Well they’re at it again with another big smash, Tokyo (Vampire & Wolves), which infuses soft synths and a driving dance beat that mixes with their rock sensibilities making the song dancefloor/iPod ready!

The single officially drops on Sept. 27th but you can get a sneak peek below.

Highly Recommended

Here goes for my first contributing article!!

After djing for about ten years, 7 in mobile and 3 in clubs. You really have some stories to tell. Whether it be the naked chick in your DJ booth playing with ice cubes, or the sweaty guido dancing in front of you blocking your view. Yes, I would think these are great stories to tell, but there is so much more to DJing than people think.

“Hey Lu Ong, let me be the DJ for a second, it’s easy!”

No. Shut Up.

This is an art, we are the artists. But with the market being saturated with Dj’s who have Itunes and a sound system, or the ones that played DJ Hero and think its the same thing, where does that leave all the true DJs? The ones that can blend and scratch, mix and match… it’s a shame that promoters only care about how many people a DJ can bring. As DJ Eddie Edge put it:

“promoters…stop booking terrible djs. if its ur party u should take pride is puttin on a good show, which requires talent. not some hack with the whole Crooklyn Clan site downloaded and 25 friends.. people won’t come to your parties a 2nd time if u make piss poor talent decisions the 1st time…”

Clubs now have managers that regulate the type of music that should be played at the venue. As the case with Jazzy Jeff getting thrown out of the club because the music wasn’t what the club expected it to be! What does that say about today’s club scene? Jazzy Jeff is an icon to this industry as well as the man he was spinning tribute to, DJ AM. And to have a DJ get thrown out of a club because his music wasn’t “right” says that clubbing has gone, in some ways, corporate.

We can all play the Lady Gaga, Kanye hits but what DJ can mix KRS-One with Justin Bieber (and not get killed for it)? Although the last mash up idea is quite out there, my point is, real DJ’s shock a crowd, they don’t play it safe, they’re not afraid to take risks, but if they do, they’re smart about it.

We’re living in a day and age where the DJ has become the new celebrity type. It’s not surprising that everyone wants to be one now. I’ve had many people ask me to teach them to DJ and get them gigs, but I say no because:

They’re in it for something other than the music

They’re not a girl

They think it’s easy. You try mixing while you get dry humped by some blonde using you as a stripper pole!

This one is to all the talented hard working DJs out there who are in this for the love of the music, love of the life, and love of the good people in this industry.

Until next time, peace, love, and lots of coffee (or energy drinks if that’s your thing).

If you haven’t witnessed one of the epic, expressive and endlessly energetic sets the brothers from Brooklyn produce, then now this a perfect chance as their set is being recorded live for a future release.

Sankeys also welcomes its other I (Love) NY resident, A-Luv, to the basement for the second time. The Dirty Beats boss is prolific across the pond and joins Carnival resident Greg Vickers behind the decks.

I received an e-mail from a good friend yesterday, with the subject line “Death Vinyl.” Before I even opened it, a slew of ideas popped immediately into my head, as to what this vague, but loaded phrase could actually be alluding to – the metaphorical “death” of the vinyl record, perhaps a band name, or even a new record company. The possibilities, at this point, were endless.

I was not quite prepared, however, for what lay beyond – “beyond” being the operative word.

Upon clicking the link, I was brought to a black and white page, with a loading bar. The words “Pressed for Time” were written above it. This didn’t aid in conjuring any concrete ideas…

…That is, until, I was greeted by the Grim Reaper. Well, the Grim Reaper with headphones affixed to its skull, and a scythe that had seemingly transformed into a record stylus.

“Okay,” I thought, “this is pretty clever.”

The explanation written next to the grave-site that read “R.I.V,” (Rest in Vinyl, I am assuming) made it all perfectly clear.

Essentially, Death in Vinyl is a service – a rather macabre, yet insanely ingenious service – but a service, nonetheless. Upon death, you can choose to have your ashes interweaved into a vinyl record. You can even record some last words onto this vinyl, that will be heard atop the “pops and crackles” engendered by your ashes.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more fun, Death Vinyl will paint your portrait onto the sleeve of the ash-laden record…using – yes, you’ve guessed it – a portion of your ashes mixed into the paint.

The service comes at a premium, of course, but it gives new meaning to “the ghost in the machine.”
